Spanish Teacher

 

Definition: The Spanish teacher would work collaboratively with colleagues in various curricular areas and divisions. Candidates must be fluent, have a strong knowledge of Spanish grammar and vocabulary, and have training in second language instruction. Candidates should be passionate about teaching and celebrating Spanish language and Hispanic cultures and should be committed to collaborating with colleagues.  Candidates should have successful teaching experience in lower or middle school levels. 

 

Job Requirements:

  • Engage students in active learning to develop cultural competency and spoken language for interpersonal, interpretive and presentational communication.  
  • Guide students through the use of authentic materials, the regular use of the target language, and vibrant and purposeful engagement with existing and emerging technologies.  
  • Develop an expansive curriculum that follows a developmental progression and includes, but is not limited to, grammar and vocabulary, conjugation, Spanish culture, and participation in multilingual communities, which promotes the development of social, emotional, cognitive and academic skills. 
  • Engage in frequent collaboration related to planning, instruction, and assessment directly connected to student learning with both grade level homeroom teachers and the Spanish Department.  
  • Observe and evaluate student’s work and progress, providing regular feedback to students. Instruct students both individually and in group, adapting teaching methods to meet students’ varying needs, interests, and learning styles.  
  • Prepare, administer, and grade classwork and homework in order to evaluate student’s progress.  
  • Plan and supervise class projects, guest speakers and other activities or school wide events to promote learning. 
  • Meet with parents/guardians and homeroom teachers to discuss children’s progress and maximize student learning. 
  • At all times maintain appropriate boundaries between student and adult.

  • Employee must be self-motivated, self-directed, collaborative, flexible, and highly organized.
  • Thorough knowledge of educational curriculum, instructional methodology, and technology with strong background and implementation of effective instructional practices through professional learning.
  • Ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics of data, people or things.    
  • Ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instruction.
  • Ability to perform non-instructional duties as assigned.  Understands the growth and development of students..
